Coaching Requirements

Mandatory Steps and Registration

Before participating in ANY on-ice or team activities coaches must complete all coaching requirements as outlined by Minnesota Hockey.  This includes:

1. Obtaining a current season USA Hockey Membership as a coach

2. An up to date background check

3. Annual SafeSport training

4. Completion USA Hockey Age Specific Traning modules for each level coaching.  The Player Development module may be required first.

5. Completion of a concussion training course and coach concussion acknowledgement form.

6. Register for the appropriate USA Hockey Coaching Education Program (CEP) course required for coach education progression. Coaches have until December 31 to complete the required training. (Mite/8U Coaches are allowed to coach on an expired level 1 course until moving to the Squirt/10U level.)

Once all  steps are complete, fill out the AHYHA coaches registration form to submit all required documents to the Association.

Be sure to save an electronic copy of your concussion course certificate of completion and coach concussion acknowledgement form to provide in your coaches registration form. 

Unsure about your coaching status

Use the USA Hockey Coaches Portal to check on requirements due and complete necessary steps:  https://www.usahockey.com/coaches.  Login to your coaching account then go to your Profile.  Then select the Coaching Information menu item.

Head Coach Expectations

Head Coaches must ensure their staff has completed all requirements prior to participating with the team.  Additional information may be requested by registraiton administrators to complete USA Hockey rostering, coach compliance in responding to such inquries are critical to getting teams set up for the season.
