AHYHA player eligibility is defined by Minnesota Hockey. Players must register and participate with the association whose boundaries incorporate the player’s residence. The membership boundary for the AHYHA is defined by the geographic attendance boundary of Andover High School.
The AHYHA and District 10 apply rigorous verification procedures to ensure players meet association eligibility requirements. Proof of school enrollment and or residency may be requested.
Waivers may be considered in accordance with Minnesota Hockey and AHYHA policies subject to review and approval by the AHYHA Waiver Committee and District 10 Hockey.
Please consider these rules carefully when planning hockey participation.

Participation policies and waiver rules are defined in the Minnesota Hockey Handbook
Beginning with the 2024 - 2025 season, MN Hockey made a significant change to association eligibility. Players with residences within the Andover High School boundaries are assured eligibility. Players with residences outside of the Andover High School boundaries that attend school within Andover may make a one-time election to play hockey with Andover at the time of registration for their first year of Squirt/10U with school waiver approval. Players younger or older than their first year of Squirt/10U will not be granted eligibility. Players with active school waivers may be eligible to play for Andover hockey with continued enrollment at an Andover school.

Players residing outside the Andover boundaries should contact their association of residence to start the waiver process. For school waivers previously granted, proof of school enrollment will be required and must be submitted prior to beginning any tryout or practice activities. This process will need to occur with each school change (ie. upon movement from elementary to middle school and middle school to high school).
If you live in the Andover High School boundaries and are waiving out of the AHYHA, contact the AHYHA President to start the waiver process.
Players must sign up for the level in which their birth date falls. Moving down to a younger age range is not allowed.
Moving up to an older age range is allowed if that player would then be in the grade appropriate level. Grade appropriate is defined as a player who is attending a grade that is typical of the playing level. Grade ranges for each level: Bantams/15U are grades 8 and 9, Pee Wee/12U are grades 6 and 7, and Squirts/10U are grades 4 and 5. Players may not play down based on their grade level if their age exceeds the birthdate range for the level.
Players who wish to participate at a level other than their designated level, and do not meet the grade appropriate move up, must present a petition to the Board of Directors. Please refer to the AHYHA Policies for details. AHYHA abides by Minnesota Hockey and District 10 policies related to moving youth to non-designated levels and checking leagues.
Girls may register for youth teams but boys may not register for girls teams. Girls need to declare at registration if they are trying out for youth or girls, they may not tryout for both.
Teams offered at each level will be defined by final registration numbers each season.
