American Development Model (ADM)

AMERICAN DEVELOPMENT MODEL

USA Hockey partnered with the NHL to develop the American Development Model (ADM) to ensure that all hockey players were being taught age-appropriate skills.  AHYHA supports the mission and elements of ADM.  Using the principles of ADM to guide us, our association will thrive as more young players get greater enjoyment from this wonderful sport.

VIDEOS

The videos below are designed to help educate coaches, parents, officials, and others on the benefits of the American Development Model.  Some are fairly lengthy but all contain great information.

The following video was created in New England.  Listen to Jerry York, Ted Donato and others talk about hockey and how we, as youth coaches, can do a better job of developing players.

The video to the left is an overview of the American Development Model.  NHL coaches like Peter Laviolette and Mike Sullivan discuss the principles of ADM and how they will positively prepare him/her for the next challenge in their hockey development.

Did you know that if Minnesota was a country it would be the fourth biggest country in the world in terms of number of youth hockey players after Canada, the United States, and Russia?  Yet countries like Sweden and Finland are winning world championships with fewer players to draw from than our state.  The file below gives a great overview of the problems that USA Hockey is trying to fix through ADM.  It shows how Massachusetts, who got away from their community based model several years ago is no longer developing players.
